Today we are here in HeadQuarterTv to talk about the LG 27GL850-B. This monitor is the newer version of the 2019 GL series monitors and let’s find out if it’s better or not. Design:
By looking at this monitor you can instantly realise that it’s made for gaming becasue of it’s beautiful design. It has same top and side bezels as GN series and a pretty thin chin and as you can see there is a huge ring around the input/outputs which makes it look really clean.
The legs looks really professional in terms of gaming and it’s very stable compare to the way it look and personally I really like it.
Ports:
For Inputs and Outputs you will get a Headphone jack, 2 HDMI 2.0 ports, a DisplayPort 1.4 and 2 USB ports.
Display:
This monitor is a 27-inch, 1440p and 144Hz with a peak brightness of 380 nits and has a contrast ratio of 856:1. It has a FreeSync and G-sync compatibility and that means you wont have any issue with screen tears. This monitor has a 108 Pixels per inch (PPI) and also a 10 Bit panel. These are basically just numbers that you have to know for your own information. This monitor also supports HDR and it’s way better than the other models for example GN series so this is a huge plus for the GL850-B.
Pixel Response Time:
The pixel response time on this monitor is 2400 PPS and that’s quite surprising for a 144Hz monitor because for example BENQ Zowie monitor has a PPS of 1920 and the picture will look very blurry while in the move and it’s so hard to see it but GN850-B is way smoother than that and this can easily be shown in their performance. This monitor has 4 different options for Overdrive which can be changed in the menu and they are: “Off”, “Normal”, “Fast” and “Faster”. The only problem here is the Faster option. Personally this is not a good one because it just looks so bad when you are playing and it will give a huge colorful ghosting behind the object and I really don’t know what is the purpose of LG adding this option anyway when their other 3 (off, normal and fast) are decent and nearly better than any other 144Hz monitor. I wouldn’t recommend you to chose that as I said why but trust me the other 3 are really great and powerful when it comes smoothness. The best Overdrive setting is “Normal” and you don’t really have to change it as it’s the best performance of the monitor on that level. Also if for example you are getting 140 Fps you could try put the overdrive on “Fast” which could give you a better gaming experience but if your Fps isn’t really that high, I wouldn’t recommend it.
Color Accuracy:
The GL850-B has a really accurate color gamut and comparing to other monitors of this price range it’s pretty decent. You will get an average Delta E around 3.80 which by the number of it, it means it’s not that great but when you start looking at it it looks way better that monitors with better Delta E and the colors are too accurate. If you don’t know what is the best let me tell you that the closer you are to zero, the more accurate the monitor colors are. Delta E more than 5 is pretty bad and I’ve seen monitors with better Delta E than GL850-B on the paper and you might think well 3.8 is quite close to 5 so it shouldn’t be that good but when it comes to experiencing the colors yourself you will notice than this is just absolute beast in color accuracy and can compete in between the other gaming monitors with better Delta E and even win over a few.
Black Equalizer:
Next up we have black equalizer which is basically suppose to brighten darker areas without overexposing lighter areas. This in turn gives competitive players an edge, allowing them to spot enemies hiding in dark corners and shadows so you can have an easier eyes on enemies in the dark. In this monitor you will have levels from 0 to 100 and 50 is the default setting which is quite decent itself and you dont have to change it if you can see enough but coming up to 60 it will basically make the dark corners more visible for your eyes but the screen will look you just added a white filter and that might not be very interesting for you to look at but when you change the settings to 70, this is where things get interesting. The black equalizer will do it’s job and will give you what you were looking for and going to 80 will even make it better without feeling like there is a huge white filter installed on your screen however, you will be able to see dark corners very much better and it won’t be too bright.
Viewing Angles:
This is my favorite part of this monitor which is just I think better than any other gaming monitor in the market. Viewing angles on this monitor is perfect and that means you can be looking on any angle, in front of the monitor, on the sides, on top or bottom doesn’t matter because GL850-B doesn’t lose any colors or picture quality and accuracy and that is one option that a lot of customers are looking for in new monitors because sometimes it is necessary to have.
On Screen Display(OSD):
The OSD hasn’t really changed since 2018 series and well that is just easy and perfect to work with. There is a button for both volume and brightness adjustment and if you push that in you will have an access to a small menu which includes: “Power”, “Game Mode”, “inputs” and lastly “Settings” and from there you can get an access to all other settings like “Game Adjust”, “Picture Adjust”, “General”. All these individual settings have got their own individual adjustment which is just a tone of settings you can be able to change however you would prefer it to be.
Overall, it’s a good worthy monitor which can last you longer than you think without being nervous if you picked the right choice.
