An Honest review
So today we are taking a look at Samsung MU8000. First we will talk about the design and then we will get to picture quality and other important informations that you need to know. (Amazon Price: €920.00). There are Amazon affiliate links on this page so make sure you definitely check them out before purchasing your favorite TV.
Design:
The design of the MU8000 is great but the build quality is a bit cheap since there is a few plastic parts included in it. As you can tell the stand is wide and sturdy. This TV is quite thin from the sides and the back is textured and it has panels to hide some inputs and cables. You can also route some cables via inside the legs of the stand.
All the HDMI inputs are located on the OneConnect Box which could clutter your setup. The LEDs of the backlight are located at the bottom which is why the heat will be coming from there.
What you get is 4 HDMI 2.0 ports, all of them being HDCP 2.2 compatible, 2 USB ports for connecting external storage, a digital optical output, aerial inputs and the TV connector. On the TV you will find an extra USB port along with an Ethernet port for wired connection to the internet.
Picture Quality:
Now, for the picture Quality. First the native contrast ratio. It is in line with other LCD TVs with VA panel. So this means the blacks in a dark room are great and better than an IPS TV like LG SJ8500. The MU8000 has local dimming unlike the cheaper MU6300 however is not great since it is edged from the bottom. This results in vertical blooming around bright objects. The uniformity of the screen is good without too much dirty screen effect in the middle like the MU63000 has. The edges and corners are a bit darker though.
Viewing Angles:
The picture Quality degrades like most LED TVs. Obviously you want to be able to watch the TV from Different angles and MU8000 can be visible even in 84 degrees unlike LG SJ8500 and MU6300 as these TVs will go dark if you try and watch them from that angle. One of MU8000 competitors in this case is Sony X900E.
Reflection:
MU8000 reflects an average amount of light. It is okay in a normal bright room but it could be an issue in a brighter room with a lot of windows. In that case the Sony will have less reflections.
In HDR, the MU8000 can get a little bit brighter than MU6300, but it does vary in time. Unfortunately it cannot get as bright as Sony X900E so the HDR experience wont be as good but still one of the best. Unlike the MU6300, it does have a wider color gamut for HDR which is great. This means colors will look vivid when displaying HDR content. MU8000 (DCI P3 uv Gamut: 93.67%) MU6300 (DCI P3 uv Gamut: 89.32%)
Motion Blur:
Motion blur is pretty amazing. The response time is about 12ms for most transitions, so there wont be a long trail following the moving objects. Like most Samsung TVs it uses the PWM technique to dim the backlight which is why there is a duplications of the picture when it is moving. The lower the backlight, the more present the effect. The input lag is not only great, But it is consistent no matter the signal you send. fast video games feel very responsive on this TV as well.
Smart Features:
Now for the smart features, The MU8000 uses the Tizen platform from Samsung and its pretty easy to navigate. The included remote cannot be used as an on-screen pointer, but it has a microphone.
If the information above interested you in choosing Samsung MU8000 over its competitors then go a head and buy it because its been ranked as its long term usage by other customers and it’s worth it’s price tag.
